Dr. Ramaekers works as a professor in psychopharmacology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. His research combines methods from psychopharmacology, forensic toxicology and cognitive neuroscience to determine drug induced changes in human performance. Throughout his career Dr. Ramaekers has published more than 170 articles. In his work, he focuses on the impact of different substances of abuse, including cannabis, MDMA, cocaine on neuronal networks and human cognitive control. The most prominent example is a series of papers focusing on neurobiological mechanisms underlying behavioral changes caused by drugs of abuse. More recently, his work also focuses on clinical effects of psychedelic drugs on mood, mindfulness and creativity and their therapeutic implications.
